Bulletin 2025 Week 24

This bulletin marks two years of Scottish Technology Club! I started it as a way to bring together the GlasgowJS and EdinburghJS communities and to fill a gap in the Scottish Ecosystem. There is often a lot of focus on “startups”, but less time given to more technical-focused groups. I think a healthy ecosystem needs a bit of both: entrepreneurship, business and growth, but also people making, learning, and exploring. Through this bulletin, featuring content written by Scotland-based tech folk, livestreaming and archiving videos, mentoring, and supporting conversations I hope that the club is playing its small part in enriching our lives.
I’m grateful for the support of our meetup sponsors: TravelPerk and BJSS, LiveToAir for the amazing video work, and the people who contribute a bit each month to keep the site and the meetups going: Duncan McLean, Ian Price, Ljupche Vasilev, Brewnode Dave, Sergio Castillo, Serene Rajkarnikar and Kelsie Murphy.
I hope that you find the bulletin and events listings useful - if you do then please do drop me a note to tell me what you’ve enjoyed, or if you have any suggestions for what to add.
As it’s birthday week (the official birthday is on 12th June) I’ll be rolling out a few updates to the site and community. Keep an eye out for some changes and improvements!
Events this week seem to fall mostly on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ll be talking AI with developers at GlasgowJS, there is an Edinburgh Data Science & AI meetup and Aberdeen Python User Group have a talk on Project Aria Glasses.
Looking further ahead Kubernetes Community Days is coming to Edinburgh in October.
This week in content from Scotland-based tech-folk:
- Gregory published a video on how to run an Open Street Map Meetup. (The general advice of “you should just organise something” applies to other meetups too! I’m happy to help feature new events and groups in the bulletin, just get in touch)
- Daniel streamed working on Nuxt
- Nicola posted on how you can build a Tardis with D3
- Michael posted on why you should add JSON-LD to your website
- Sarah posted on how to configure Azure Monitor Diagnostic settings
- Pawel and Weronika built on a CodeClan project and have released a new version of “Bin Days” app for Edinburgh
I’m keen to find folks to help organise the GlasgowJS and EdinburghJS summer social events in July. If you want to help coordinate a pub-trip in either city then give me a shout!
